Mrs. Brown, niece of former World Heavyweight Champion Joe Louis, installs letters on marquee of the Paradise Valley Theater in mid-town Detroit. The photographer was Frank Brown, Mrs. Brown's husband.
Frank Brown went on to become one of Detroit's leading entertainment concert promoters. Among the artists he promoted were such notables as Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Billie Holliday, Count Basie, Ella Fitzgerald, Miles Davis, Charlie Parker, Stan Kenton, Jimmy Dorsey, Illinois Jacquet, Dinah Washington, Woody Herman, Chris Connor, Paul Huckebuck, Dakota Staton, Margie Day, Danny Cobb, George Sherring, Fats Domino, and Soupy Sales, among others.
During 1988-89 the Paradise Valley Theatre was extensively renovated, restored and renamed Orchestra Hall.Today it is the home of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.
